RW-C president Stuart Bunting says he is particularly excited about the lineup of speakers for this year. “There’s something for everyone, from history to current events. These men and women are experts in their field and experienced speakers who are certain to educate and inspire, and perhaps provoke some lively discussion as well,” he said.

On March 4, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities director of digital initiatives Matthew Gibson will speak. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Gibson serves as editor of Encyclopedia Virginia, a digital publication about Virginia’s history and culture. He will explain how Encyclopedia Virginia can be used to explore the history and culture of the Commonwealth.

On April 1, Menokin Foundation executive director Sarah Pope will speak. Pope, a graduate of the College of William & Mary, has been in her present position since 2005. Under her leadership the Menokin site, home of Francis Lightfoot Lee, has become an important regional resource for education about life in the colonial period.

On May 6, University of Mary Washington, Leidecker Center for Asian Studies co-director and professor of philosophy and religion Mehdi Aminrazavi will speak. A member of the American Academy of Religion and the American Philosophical Association, Aminrazavi is the author of Philosophy, Religion and the Question of Intolerance and co-editor of the five-volume Anthology of Philosophy in Persia.

On June 3, former Navy SEAL James Papineau will speak. Papineau will recount his experiences in this elite fighting force.

The free Viewpoints presentations begin at 11 a.m. Attendees are invited to remain after the presentations for a complimentary buffet luncheon. Reservations are required. Call 438-4000 on or after February 18 for the March 4 event.

RW-C maintains a waiting list and will honor reservations in the order received. Separate reservations must be made for each event.
