‘Rainmaker’ to open August 10 in Callao

The Westmoreland Players will present the “The Rainmaker”  August 10-25 at the Players Theater in Callao.

The storyline follows Lizzie Curry who keeps house for her  father and brothers on the family cattle ranch during the depression, according to board member George Runkle. A  charming con-man named Starbuck arrives and promises to bring rain to the  drought-stricken area in exchange for $100.  His arrival sets off a series  of events with comical consequences.

The movie version starred Katherine  Hepburn and Burt Lancaster.

 Local actors who also have performed in Lancaster Players productions include  Kat Shepherd, Cary Jones and Bob Wilson.   Remaining cast members are Nicholas Smith, Brett Hermance, Randy Black and Jason Strong.

The show is directed and produced by Glenn and Joy Evans. Janice Coates is stage manager and Michael Bruner constructed the set.

Performances are 8 p.m. August 10, 15, 16, 17 and 23; and 3 p.m. August 11, 18, 24 and 25. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students.
