About the Rappahannock Record

Welcome to the online version of the Rappahannock Record, an independently-owned weekly newspaper published in Kilmarnock, Lancaster County, Virginia. Kilmarnock is a trading center for the Northern Neck, a peninsula in Virginia bordered by the Chesapeake Bay and the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers.

One of four newspapers on the Northern Neck, the Record is the largest in both size and circulation. Founded in 1916, it averages 30 to 40 pages each week with a press run of approximately 8,500 and a readership of about 20,000.

Much like this online version, the paper is divided into various news segments. Two section fronts carry top local news of the week and a third section front introduces "The Northern Neck Marketplace," an extensive listing of real estate and classifieds. Other pages are devoted to a calendar of events for the week, stories about upcoming events, opinions, and news about schools, sports, businesses and churches.

The Record's coverage area includes all of Lancaster County (11,100 population) and parts of neighboring Northumberland, Richmond and Middlesex counties. Approximately 5,500 papers are distributed in Lancaster County alone. Subscriptions are sent via second class mail and the paper is available on many local newsstands.

The Record is a member of the Virginia Press Association and the National Newspaper Association.

You can subscribe to the Record from any of our online pages. You will receive a statement by mail, or to order by credit card, call 804-435-1701.
