Are you ready for boating season?

Daffodils are up, days are getting longer and it’s time to think about the upcoming boating season.

It is also time to think about boating safety and planning on attending a Safe Boating Course. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 33 will offer a free one-day course that meets the Virginia Law requiring all operators of a vessel with a 10-horsepower or more motor to successfully complete an approved Safe Boating Course.

“Statistics show that the uneducated boater has the better chance of adding to the statistics,” said education officer Mike Kelley. “Year after year, Coast Guard numbers indicate that 80% of fatalities on the water involve people that never took a safe boating course.”
