BrightStart! early literacy program receives support

During the 2017-18 school year, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students in Virginia’s Lancaster, Middlesex and Westmoreland public schools showed continued progress in literacy skills through the Nemours BrightStart! early literacy program.

Noting the significant benefits of BrightStart!, educators in these counties requested that more students have the opportunity to participate.

In response, the trustees of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund awarded a grant of $20,192 to The Nemours Foundation to expand services during the 2018-19 school year, reported Leslie Roberts. The grant was among 29 awards, valued at $1.7 million, made by the trustees during their summer meeting.

BrightStart! has helped close the reading readiness gap for thousands of children in schools, child care centers and other community settings for more than a decade…
