Ceremony set Sunday to mark patriot graves

The James Monroe and Richard Henry Lee Chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution on Sunday, October 1, will mark the graves of Revolutionary War Patriots, Daniel Payne and John Payne, as well as War of 1812 veteran John Payne.

The SAR delegation will be joined at 2 p.m. by The War of 1812 Society of Virginia and the Virginia Society of the Order of Founders and Patriots at the walled Payne Cemetery at Ingleside Plantation in Westmoreland County.

The cemetery is inside the Plantation’s tree nursery farm. Within the cemetery is a walled burial yard for the Payne family. Ancestor John Payne immigrated to the Northern Neck from England in about 1653 and the cemetery grounds were once owned by the Payne family.
