Christopher elected school board chairman

CLARAVILLE—The first meeting of the year for the Northumberland County School Board was delayed a week because of snow. Members held their organizational meeting Tuesday, January 17.

In unanimous votes of 5-0, board members elected District 4 member Betty Christopher to serve as chairman and District 5 member Gayle Sterrett as vice chairman.

Outgoing chairman Dean Sumner, District 2, declined a nomination by Gerald Howard, District 3, for another year at the helm, citing work obligations.

Carol Badenoch was elected board clerk with acting superintendent Holly Wargo as deputy clerk.

Regular meetings will continue to be held on the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Closed sessions will begin at 5 p.m…
