Clarice M. George

HEATHSVILLE—Clarice McLaughlin George, 84, of Heathsville passed away on Saturday afternoon, August 5, 2017, at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital in Tappahannock.

Clarice was born June 21, 1933, at her family’s home in Blue Jay, W.Va., the daughter of the late Ona Richmond and Theodore Warren McLaughlin. She was the fourth of eight children.

Clarice moved to Washington, D.C., as a teenager where she met and married John A. George in 1953. She raised her family in Adelphi, Md., before moving to Heathsville in the Northern Neck of Virginia in retirement.

Clarice had a long and successful career at Maryland Federal Savings and Loan in Hyattsville, Md., where she rose from part-time teller to executive vice president.

She enjoyed running and exercising for many years earlier in her life and loved to sit on her deck in the evening looking out at the Great Wicomico River.

Clarice supported many charities throughout her life and was a special champion of The Haven in Warsaw.

She is survived by husband, Bill Moran of Heathsville; son, John George (Susan) of Baltimore, Md.; daughter, Judi Hendricks (Bill) of Woodbine, Md.; beloved grandsons, Joe Hendricks of Pikesville, Md., and Nathan Hendricks of Woodbine; sisters, Reba Di Stefano of Annapolis, Md., and Mary Wolfe of Frederick, Md.; and brothers, George McLaughlin (Laura) of West Milton, Ohio, and Tom McLaughlin (Vicki) of Amesville, Ohio.

She also is survived by niece, Patsy George of Wheeling, W.Va.; grandnephews, Chris George (Kim) of Maidsville, W.Va.; and Tim George (Lauren) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great-grandniece, Allie George; and great-grandnephew, Jacob George of Maidsville; and a host of McLaughlin and George nieces and nephews.

Clarice was predeceased by her son, Robert, and her siblings Emmett McLaughlin, Marie Fisher and Scotty McLaughlin.

A memorial service in celebration of Clarice’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 18, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Kilmarnock. A reception will follow immediately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clarice’s name to The Haven, P.O. Box 1267, Warsaw, VA 22572.
