Chesapeake Academy on September 6 held convocation to officially start the 2018-19 academic session.
“Convocation” refers to a group of people formally assembled for a special purpose. Chesapeake Academy punctuates the beginning of each school year with this type of community gathering to affirm common values, to focus on common goals and to begin again together to build a supportive community for learning.
Students gather, process in and all are welcomed. The U.S. flag is honored with the Pledge of Allegiance. Student council officers are introduced and new students are welcomed.
Each year at convocation, the head of school explains a character theme, setting the focus for the school year. This year’s theme of “connection” follows previous themes of empathy, kindness and trust…
