Edwin L. Belle

Edwin L. Belle

PHILADELPHIA, PA—Edwin Llewellyn Belle of White Stone died Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

Edwin was born in White Stone on June 5, 1947, to the union of the late Crosky James Belle Sr. and Lou Edythe Davis Belle. He was baptized by Rev. A.N. Johnson at an early age.

Edwin was 15 months old when his father passed away and 12 years old when his mother passed, suddenly. His sister, Clementine, moved from New York to take care of him and his brothers, Robert and William.

Growing up, Edwin was very active in his home church. He received his formal education in Lancaster County at A.T. Wright and Brookvale High School in Lancaster. He excelled in high school and was a member of the choir. Edwin graduated from Brookvale High School Class of 1965 and ranked as one of the 639 finalists in the National Achievement Scholarship Program for Negro Students.

After graduating, Edwin went to Connecticut to live with his brother until it was time to enter college. He attended Lincoln University in Oxford, Pa., where he majored in computer programming.

Upon graduation, Edwin relocated to Philadelphia, Pa., and was recruited by Univac as a computer programmer analyst. He later became a computer analyst with the FMC Corporation. Edwin then secured a position as a system analyst with Temple University until his retirement.

Edwin traveled to many places in the U.S., Paris, France, England, China and even as far away as Japan and many other countries. Even during all of his traveling he still found time to come home to spend time with his family. Edwin was always home for Christmas.

As time grew and as Edwin got older he began to lose his eye sight, but that did not stop him. He never complained and was an inspiration to so many during his walk of life. He shared hope, strength and kindness to everyone around him.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Lloyd, Frank, Crosky Jr., George, Carter and Robert; and sisters, Catherine, Frances and Emma.

Edwin leaves to cherish his precious memories his sister, Clementine Belle of White Stone; brother, William (Gayle) Belle of Las Vegas, Nev.; two nieces, Babette (Clyde) Morrison with nephew Dwayne, all of Baltimore, Md.; Michelle (Amritt) Villa with nephews Taylor and Troy, all of Yorktown; three other sisters-in-law, Paulette Belle of Matoaca, Alfreda and Lillian Belle, both of Baltimore; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and special friends, Shelia Hamilton-his secretary, Brenda Campbell, Rudy Mayo, Juanita Jones, Mark Bearden, Gwendolyn Beard, Shirley Russell and Wallace Randolph all of Philadelphia, Pa.

Viewing and services were held Saturday, June 30, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Campbell Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.
