Farmers market will cover wine, quilts, produce and environment

The Northern Neck Wine Festival will be held Saturday, April 15, in conjunction with the Heathsville Farmers Market at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.

The public is invited to savor the flavor of Virginia wines from 11 a.m to 5 p.m., reported manager Corinne Becker.

Tickets will be sold at the gate for $10, which includes a free etched wine glass for tastings. Food and other wine-related vendors will participate, said Becker. The Tavern Café and Heritage Arts Center Gift Shoppe also will be open.

The market, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will offer produce, bread and baked goods, goat cheese, flowers and nursery plants, meat, eggs and handcrafts. A celebration of Earth Day will take place concurrently, offering exhibits and special activities, all with an environmental theme.

Run by the Tavern Culinary Guild, the Tavern Café offers homemade scones and coffee, plus homemade soups, fresh-baked breads and other sweet treats, said Becker. The market food concession stand will offer breakfast and lunch sandwiches.

Blacksmith, woodworking, quilting and spinning and weaving guilds will demonstrate and sell their wares. The quilters also will hold the Tavern Quilt Show & Sale, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
