Grief support groups offered in 2017

During 2017, Bay Center for Spiritual Development will provide grief support groups to offer support, understanding and acceptance through the grieving process throughout the year.

There will be four, 10-week series throughout 2017, reported director Carol Burke. Sessions will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays at Bay Center, 31 Noblett Lane, Kilmarnock.

Each series will begin with an informational session, she said. The informational sessions are slated Tuesday, January 10, April 4, August 1 and October 27.

Groups will allow participants to explore, within a “trusting, nurturing and confidential environment, their reactions to loss, learn about the grieving process, develop strategies for coping and begin to integrate this change into their lives in order to move forward, said Burke.

The support groups will be led by Sally Edwards and/or Lee Archard, both counselors in private practice with the help and assistance of Karen Woodruff and/or Hal White, both retired clergy.

The resource book, Understanding Your Grief, Ten Essential Touchstones for Finding Hope and Healing Your Heart, will be handed out at each of the first sessions.

The fee is $75 per series. Scholarships will be available and are encouraged when needed, said Burke.

Grief Support Groups at Bay Center for Spiritual Development are made possible by a grant from The Robert B. Lantz Foundation.
