Horace J. Tiggle

WEEMS—Horace J. Tiggle of Weems died June 27, 2018. He was born on September 12, 1947, to Horace Lee and Florida Tiggle Murray of Weems.

He attended the Lancaster Public Schools and was a graduate of the former Brookvale High School in 1967.

He joined Sharon Baptist Church at an early age and he loved his church and praising God. He was very active in the church and served in many organizations. He was a member of the Deacon’s Ministry (an active chairman), Sharon Community Choir, Sharon Men’s Choir and was a Sunday school teacher. In addition, he was a member of the Young Men’s Club.

He served in the Army after graduating. Early in the 1970s, he operated Tiggle’s Texaco. In the early 1980s, Horace went with his passion, his love, the water. He became an entrepreneur and built his own vessel, Night Moves. He was a successful waterman until his passing.

He was joined in marriage to Barbara A. Smith on June 30, 1984. From this wondrous union, they were blessed with a son, Aki, who predeceased him.

Horace was also predeceased by his parents; grandson Travis; and his brother, David.

He ended his life leaving a memory to be carried on by his family. “Trust in the Lord and he will see you through.”

He leaves cherished memories with his beloved wife, minister Barbara Tiggle; three daughters, Carolyn (Van), Tracey (Keith) and Marla; two adopted daughters, Lisa and Laura; nine grandchildren, Montai, Markeem, Brittney, Torre, Aaron, Aki Jr., Richard, JayShawn and Caston; three great-grandchildren, Moriah, Izzy and Ayden; a brother, Alfred; a sister, Ann; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Lorraine; five brothers-in-law, John, Sylvester, Clifford, Paul and Irving; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other loved ones.

Horace touched the lives of so many people. He was loved by all and will truly be missed. Enjoy your sleep, for you have earned your reward. We love you, but God had other plans for you and called you home.

A funeral was held July 2 at Sharon Baptist Church.

Arrangements were handled by Barry O. Waddy Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lancaster.
