HARRISONBURG—On Monday, January 29, 2018, Ivey Lester Hoyle Jr., “Lester,” passed away in Harrisonburg.
He was the loving husband of Charlotte Gratz Hoyle and devoted father of Sharon Hoyle Moore (Mitch) of Dayton, Tracy Hoyle Yamamoto (Greg) of Columbia, Md., and Cindy Hoyle Solomon (Paul) of Sandy, Utah; and cherished grandfather of Virginia, Alan and Rachel Moore, Camille and Elaine Yamamoto, and Nathan and Ella Solomon.
He was born August 15, 1936, to Ivey Lester Hoyle Sr. and Vivian Herndon Hoyle in Richmond. Lester graduated from the University of Richmond in 1961.
He was a home builder in Loudoun County, living in Round Hill. He was a dedicated Virginia State Park employee who enjoyed improving parks for all visitors. Lester’s hobbies included decoy carving, exercising and fixing anything that needed repair.
His retirement years were filled with joy while living at Windmill Point near White Stone, on the water, fishing, watching birds, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and touring in his 1935 Chevy.
For the past 5½ years he was cared for at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) after his traumatic brain injury in 2009.
A special thank you to all of Lester’s nurses and doctors, especially, George Vetrovec, MD, his cardiologist since 1976.
There will be a celebration of life service at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 24, at VMRC, Crestwood Building, 1401 Virginia Avenue, Harrisonburg.
