Lancaster boys win Region A championship; girls place third

Lancaster High School will send 19 athletes to compete at the Class 1A state track and field meet Friday and Saturday, June 1-2, at East Rockingham High School near Harrisonburg. Many of the athletes will compete in multiple events.

The Red Devils boys team will ride the momentum of a Region A championship and send nine athletes to compete in 20 events. Lancaster produced seven individual Region A champions en route to the regional team title last Thursday at Sussex Central. The LHS boys tallied 108 points, while Middlesex scored 92 as the runner-up. West Point was third with 68. Essex had the next best finish among Northern Neck District teams and scored 43 points for fifth place. Northumberland was seventh with 32.

The Lancaster girls team finished third with Khalia Harding winning the regional shot put championship. Lancaster’s 4X100-meter relay team also claimed the region crown. The Lady Devils have 10 athletes going to the state meet to compete in 16 events…
