Lancaster looking to Bay Bowl for first district win

by Lisa Hinton-Valdrighi

Colonial Beach scored three touchdowns in each half and held Lancaster to 150 yards of total offense in a 40-6 Northern Neck District varsity football win last Friday.

Lancaster will have one last chance to pick up a district win at 7 p.m. tomorrow, November 3, in Heathsville when Northumberland Indians will host the Red Devils in the annual Bay Bowl.

“Injuries have taken a toll on both the varsity and junior varsity levels,” said LHS coach Draper Washington.

After missing four games with a knee injury, senior running back Chris Dameron returned to the backfield last Friday for the Devils and carried the ball nine times for 30 yards.

Lancaster has been battling the injury bug for most of the season and lost its starting quarterback three weeks ago. In fact, coach Washington and crew only had seven healthy subs suited up on the sidelines last Friday, which included several JV players.
