KILMARNOCK—Mary Louise Ault Humphreys, 88, of Kilmarnock passed away on July 23, 2019.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, William L. Humphreys; two brothers, William E. Ault and Robert Bryan Ault; and a sister, Betty Ault Tucker.
She is survived by her children, Virginia H. Vere of Richmond, David W. Humphreys (Susan) of White Stone and Tyler Bryan Humphreys (Jody) of Christiansburg; five grandchildren: Sarah Townley Steffey of Richmond, Phillip Humphreys of Barhamsville and Nathaniel, Elizabeth and Sammantha Humphreys all of Christiansburg; a sister, Lee Buchanan of Staunton; a brother-in-law, Ocran Randolph Humphreys (Ruthie) of Pensacola, Fla.; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Louise was born in Staunton and moved to Kilmarnock in 1953 with her husband, Bill Humphreys, when the Humphreys family returned to Lancaster County after living in Staunton during World War II.
Louise retired as the manager of the Kilmarnock Department of Motor Vehicles and was well known for her “ACHOO” license plate. She also served her community as a part-time employee of the Lancaster County Commonwealth’s Attorney office.
She was a devoted member of the Kilmarnock Baptist Church for 65 years, serving as a deacon, youth leader and member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
She was a graduate of Rappahannock Community College and a member of various writer’s groups in the Tidewater area.
Louise was a wonderful seamstress for her family and loved her line dance group and attending dances at the Upper Lancaster and Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Departments with her dear companion, William Dawson.
The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Kilmarnock Baptist Church, Church Street, Kilmarnock, with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
