New ad sales manager joins Sentinel

Cary Webb Mizelle, a veteran of 23 years in newspaper advertising and marketing, has joined the Southside Sentinel in Urbanna as advertising sales manager, announced publisher Fred Gaskins.

Mizelle worked for many years as advertising manager with the Northern Neck News in Warsaw and later with Lakeway Publishing, which purchased the Northern Neck News and two other weekly newspapers in the Northern Neck.

From 2005 to 2013, she was advertising manager for the group and then worked for a year as an independent sales representative. She returned to Lakeway in 2014 as publishing, sales and market director, managing the staff at the three papers, beginning new publications and increasing sales.

For the past year, Mizelle has been sales and administrative manager with Advertising Concepts Inc., a publisher of lifestyle magazines and shoppers’ guides in the Richmond area.

A native of Kilmarnock, Mizelle has recently returned to her roots. She has a bachelor’s in business administration and marketing from San Diego State University and an associate’s in fashion merchandising and marketing from the Art Institute of Atlanta, Ga.

Mizelle has been a reading volunteer in the school systems of Hanover and Henrico counties.

She succeeds Wendy Burch, who resigned her position in May. The Sentinel advertising staff also includes sales representative Gloria Abbott.

Another veteran of weekly newspapers in Virginia, David Cole, recently was named to the new position of advertising director for the Sentinel and the Rappahannock Record in Kilmarnock.

Mizelle can be reached at 758-2328, extension 103, or [email protected].
