RAL Labor Day Show judge named

The Rappahannock Art League (RAL) recently announced artist and author Mary Montague Sikes will judge the 56th annual Labor Day Show.

Sikes is an award-winning artist in pastels, acrylic paintings, sculpture and photography, with a passion for encaustic and mixed media painting, reported RAL president Barry Beswick. She is a native Virginian with an MFA in painting and teaches artist workshops and classes.

The show will extend from August 30 through September 9 at the RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

“RAL consistently draws visitors from all over the country for its Labor Day Show, which boosts patronage to our many fine area venues,” said co-chairman Patty Richards.

As in years past, RAL members will be asking area businesses, residents and organizations to help make this Labor Day Show memorable with donations. To donate, email Richards at [email protected].

Sikes’ paintings have been exhibited nationally and internationally and are in the collections of William and Mary Law Library, Media General, Philip Morris, Marriott Hotels, SuperClubs Jamaica and One Capitol Square. Her work also is part of numerous private collections in the U.S. and abroad. Her latest texture and design paintings are now on view at Crossroads Art Center in Richmond. A major exhibition of her large acrylic canvasses is currently at the Ward Center for Contemporary Art.

RAL’s Labor Day Show especially encourages artists new to the RAL Art Center to consider participating. A prospectus and entry forms are available at ralgallery.com. Entries must be delivered by August 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Consult ArtLine, the on-line newsletter of RAL Art Center.
