Sheriffs’ Report

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against four individuals.

Felonies

Philip E. Dean, 38, of Marina Road was charged June 4 with felony probation violation.

Mike A. Owens, 32, of Nuttsville Road was charged June 6 with felony strangulation resulting in injury and assault and battery of a family member.

Misdemeanors

An Oyster Creek Drive man, 19, was charged June 6 with driving while intoxicated by a person under the age of 21, possession of alcohol by a person under 21, and refusal to take a blood or breath test.

A Gloucester man, 33, was charged June 8 with appearing intoxicated in public.

Activity report

June 4: Staff responded to the 100 block of Fox Tail North to assist emergency management services (EMS) with a patient with an altered mental status, to Mary Ball Road for a disabled vehicle causing a traffic hazard, and to Harris Drive for the report of a traffic hazard from high water.

June 5: Staff responded to Merry Point Road for a law enforcement officer in pursuit of an off-road vehicle on the highway, to the 100 block of November Trail for vandalism of a mailbox, and to the 100 block of James Drive for assault of a family member and destruction of property.

June 6: Staff responded to the 200 block of Gaines Road for an assault that required medical attention, to the 100 block of Lonesome Pine Trail for a possible prowler, to Mary Ball and Pierce’s roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 8800 block of Mary Ball Road for a reckless driver, and to the 200 block of Beach Road to assist White Stone Police Department with a domestic disturbance.

June 7: Staff responded to Courtney Road for a fight in progress involving four people, to Mary Ball and Harris roads for a reckless driver, to the 4400 block of Irvington Road for a suspicious person, to the 100 block of Morattico Road for threats to harm another and a possible suicidal person, to the 100 block of Kenner Drive for a suspicious vehicle, and to the 100 block of Sullavans Road for a person with an altered mental status.

June 8: Staff responded to the 100 block of Landsend East to assist EMS with a patient lift, to Weems Road for a found handgun (Glock model 42) on the roadside, to the 100 block of North Main Street to assist Kilmarnock Police Department with a fight in progress, and to the 300 block of Old Ferry Road for intoxicated trespassers.

June 9: Staff responded to the 100 block of Turner Drive for a domestic disturbance involving alcohol, to the 9900 block of Mary Ball Road for a domestic disturbance involving alcohol and a possible weapon, to Harris Drive for gunshots fired in the area, to the 2100 block of River Road for a disabled vehicle causing a traffic hazard, to the 200 block of Lovers Lane for the report of an emotionally distressed person and to check their well-being, to Waverly Road for a downed tree in the highway, and to an overdue boat near Yankee Point Marina.

June 10: Staff responded to the 1400 block of Slabtown Road for a suspicious person possibly intoxicated, to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 7300 block of River Road for a prowler and harassment by a person, to Windmill Point Beach for under-aged drinkers fighting and driving recklessly, to the 1000 block of Belmont Creek Road for a person possibly suicidal, to the 400 block of Rappahannock Drive for juvenile behavior issues, and to Boys Camp Road for a downed tree in the highway

Staff also conducted 14 traffic stops, issued eight summonses, assisted four motorists, handled 10 calls for traffic control, investigated four building alarms, processed a mental health order, logged three inmate transports, received five E911 hang-up calls, and fielded five calls for animal control service.

Fire calls

The White Stone Volunteer Fire Department responded to a traffic crash on the Norris Bridge.

The Upper Lancaster VFD responded to a heavy equipment fire on Mary Ball Road and assisted with a structure fire on Brandon Lane in another county.

The Kilmarnock VFD responded to a brush fire on Weems Road, a brush fire caused by a downed power line at Long Cove Lane and Fleets Bay Road, and a structure fire on Jessie duPont Memorial Highway.

EMS calls

For the week of June 3 through 9, the Kilmarnock-Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad, Upper Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad and Lancaster County Emergency Services responded to 34 calls for service including 12 medical emergencies, five injuries, two traffic accidents, a fire and 14 other calls.

Northumberland County Sheriff James R. “Doc” Lyons this week reported charges against 10 individuals.

Felonies

Jacob Franklin Maillet, 21, of Heathsville was charged June 8 on a direct indictment from the Northumberland County Multi-jurisdictional Grand Jury with distribution for profit, a Schedule I or II drug. He was arrested by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.

Quinten Edward Turner, 34, of Hague was charged June 8 on a direct indictment from the Northumberland County Multi-jurisdictional Grand Jury with selling/distribution of a controlled substance, namely a Schedule II drug and unlawfully selling/distributing less than ½ ounce of marijuana.

Misdemeanors

A Frederick, Md., woman, 28, was charged June 3 on a capias/attachment of the body from Northumberland County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court with violating pre-trial services by failing to stay in Virginia and remain drug free. She was arrested by the Fairfax Police Department.

A Reedville man, 44, was charged June 6 with a capias/attachment of the body from the Northumberland County General District Court with violating pre-trial services by failing to remain drug free.

A Heathsville man, 40, was charged June 6 with driving revoked, alcohol related.

A Warsaw man, 29, was charged June 6 on a capias/attachment from the Northumberland County General District Court with violating pre-trial services by failing to remain on peace and good behavior, by receiving new charges in Essex County.

A Dunnsville man, 30, was charged June 8 with violating a protective order.

A Fairfax woman, 28, was charged June 8 in a capias/attachment of the body from the Northumberland County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court with failing to appear. She was arrested by the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office.

A Warsaw man, 24, was charged June 9 with failing to appear in the Essex County General District Court. He was arrested by the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO).

A Heathsville man, 55, was charged June 9 with assault and battery. This was a Lancaster County warrant served by the NCSO.
