Speaker inspires club to pursue self-creativity

LOTTSBURG—May and June have been busy and productive months for Women’s Club of Northumberland County (WCNC) members. The business meeting on May 9, was well attended and guest speaker Penny Mace, retired educator and local artist, provided an inspiring program on self-creativity.

AHA! is not an acronym, but an expression of discovery, as in “an AHA! Moment.” According to Mace, the requirements for self-creativity are simple: curiosity, stamina and a willingness to look stupid at times.

“Don’t ever let previous experiences or judgments stand in your way. Projects need not be functional, although you can make your own tools, but they should always be fun,” she said.

Members were treated to a range of Mace’s creations, including quilts, wildlife decoys and even furniture size pieces, reported Claire Given. “Hooked on Caffeine,” is a huge fish featuring overlapping coffee filters, to simulate the fish’s gills and scales.
