Speedway will host back-to-school night

Virginia Motor Speedway, 4426 Tidewater Trail, Jamaica, will return to racing Saturday, August 26, with the Northern Neck Chevrolet/Collision One Back-to-School Night.

Week 12 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship Weekly Racing season will feature the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in action.

The speedway, along with its sponsors, will collect food and donations for FeedMore and the Northern Neck Food Bank, reported track spokesman Dave Seay. For every five non-perishable food items donated, race fans will receive a free general admission ticket to the night’s racing. There is no limit on the number of free tickets.

For a list of suggested food items visit vamotorspeedway.com or feedmore.org and click on food drive.

“The shelves at the local food banks are really bare at this time of year and we encourage everyone to bring as many items as they can to donate,” said Seay.

The speedway also will distribute backpacks, while supplies last, courtesy of ChildHelp to every child that comes to the front gate from 5 to 8 p.m. It is estimated the speedway has over 3,000 backpacks to give out. All kids in the community are urged to come get a backpack, he said.

“ChildHelp is proud to partner with Virginia Motor Speedway to provide back-to-school backpacks to children in the Middlesex and surrounding school districts,” said Wade Hardman of ChildHelp.

For those who don’t participate in the food drive, admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $8 for military, $6 for ages 11-17, and free for ages 10 and younger. Pit passes are $20.
