Tour features five gardens and a museum

The 19th annual Just Gardens to benefit The Haven Shelter and Services will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 18, and Saturday, May 19.

The tour will feature three gardens in the Kinsale area and two in the Hague area. The Kinsale Museum, 449 Kinsale Road, Kinsale, also will be open on tour days.

“We’ve got a really fun tour in store for visitors this year,” said chairman Anne Olsen. “The Kinsale Volunteer Fire Department is going to be selling hamburgers and hot dogs along with chips and drinks both days, which will be nice for visitors to take advantage of while they’re in the area. Who can beat a lunch for $4 to $6? There also are several wineries in the area that tour-goers might want to visit. In other words, this tour offers a lot.”

Tour stops will include The Lewis Garden at 74 Yeocomico Lane, Kinsale; Steamboat Hill, 365 Kinsale Road, Kinsale; Courtney-Settle House, 459 Kinsale Road, Kinsale; Lee Hall, 8311 Cople Highway, Hague; and the Waughtel Garden, 56 Holiday Lane, Hague.

“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Barbour Printing this year,” said Olsen. “They were kind enough to reprint all of our brochures and tickets at no additional charge because of a snafu with the sticky closure; and they did that in record time. It just shows that there are a lot of folks who bend over backwards to help a cause like The Haven and we are forever grateful for that.”

Tickets for the event are $20 in advance and $25 on tour days. Tickets and brochures are available at The Dandelion in Irvington, The Pedestal in Kilmarnock, Dreams Fashion Boutique in Burgess, Shoppe for Haven’s Sake in Warsaw and www.havenshelter.org/justgardens; or call 333-1099.
