Town election season opens

LANCASTER—Ballots are shaping up for the May 1 town elections. Races can be expected in at least two towns where more candidates have filed than there are openings.

The deadline to file was March 6. However, write-in candidates can still launch a campaign.

In Kilmarnock, voters will elect a mayor and three council members. Incumbent mayor Mae Umphlett was among the first to file. Incumbent council members Curtis Smith and Emerson Gravatt also are seeking re-election…
