Rappahannock beat Lancaster, 9-2, last Tuesday and the Devils rebounded to shut out Northumberland, 12-0, in a five-inning slaughter Thursday.
Lancaster went 3-5 in the district and faced first-place Rappahannock in the first round of the district tournament earlier this week. Second-place Essex played third-place Washington and Lee.
Lady Red Devils win tourney semifinal!
Lucy McCann drove in Carly Webby with a game-winning double in the second inning Tuesday as Lancaster upset first place Rappahannock, 2-1, in a Northern Neck District tournament semifinal.
McCann’s shot in the second inning broke a 1-1 tie and kept the Lady Devils’ hopes of a Region A berth alive. To earn a spot in the regional tournament, Lancaster must beat the winner of the Essex vs. Washington & Lee semifinal today (May 24) in the district championship. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in Warsaw.
Rappahannock, as the Northern Neck District’s regular season champ, will host a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, May 29.
Lancaster’s Takeia Jones pitched a complete game for the win.
In the regular season finale last Thursday, Takeia Jones tossed a two-hitter to pick up the win for Lancaster. Jones walked two and struck out three in five innings against the Indians.
Lancaster rallied at the plate with 10 team hits. Sara Caudle and Jones were perfect at bat, going 2-for-2 each with a walk and two runs apiece. Kimberly Crockett batted 2-for-4 with two runs and Brandy Gilbert and Carly Webb were both 1-for-3 with two runs each.
Madison Smith and Catie Miller each batted 1-for-3 with a run.
The Devils managed eight hits against Rappahannock last Tuesday with Crockett leading the batters. She was 3-for-4, while Kori George was 2-for-3. However, Tiffany Lee and Caudle accounted for all of Lancaster’s scoring. Both batted 1-for-3 with a run and RBI each.
Lee and Jones split time on the mound with Lee pitching five innings and Jones two. Lee allowed three hits, walked three and struck out four, while Jones retired three at the plate, walked one and gave up two hits.
