Violet L. Elbourn

GLOUCESTER—Violet Lankford Elbourn, 96, of Gloucester, formerly of White Stone, passed away peacefully at Walter Reed Convalescent Center in Gloucester on March 20, 2018.

Violet was born on October 23, 1921, to Samuel Lankford and Ruth Jett Lankford. She spent the majority of her life in White Stone, until moving to Gloucester in 2002 to be near her family. Violet was a member of White Stone Baptist Church. Next to driving the school bus, her favorite things were working in her flower garden, cooking and spending time with her family.

Violet was a devoted wife, sister and aunt. She had a sweet and kind soul, never complained and always showed great appreciation, even for the smallest gestures. Violet had a very special place in the heart of her nieces and nephews. She cherished spending time with them, as well as her great nieces and nephews, whether discussing baseball games or family recipes.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie F. Elbourn; her parents; her brother, Samuel B. Lankford Sr.; and her sister-in-law, Louise U. Lankford.

She is survived by her special niece and caregiver, Patsy Lankford Hall (David); nephews, Samuel B. Lankford Jr. (Sophie), Donnie Elbourn (Terry), Keith Elbourn (Jennifer) and Chuck Elbourn (Brenda); nieces, Virginia J. Ashburn, Michelle Moffett and Kim Lampkin (Bob); as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment was at White Stone Baptist Church Cemetery, White Stone.
