Virginia C. Ismay

WARSAW—Virginia “Ginny” Clark Ismay, 95, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Orchard in Warsaw.

Mrs. Ismay was born July 15, 1922, in Philadelphia to the late Rev. Dr. Edward O. Clark, first pastor of Chevy Chase Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., and the late Eva Thayer Clark.

She graduated from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J. and had a graduate degree from the University of Virginia. She served many years as minister of music in a number of churches and also worked as a social worker.

Mrs. Ismay was the devoted wife for 54 years of Rev. R. Robert Ismay of Tappahannock, who preceded her in death in 2002. Also preceding her in death was her son, Edward T. Ismay in 1987; and brother, John B. Clark in 2005 and his wife, Jerine W. Clark, in 2014.

Mrs. Ismay is survived by her sons, Roderick R. Ismay of Washington, D.C. and John A. Ismay of Richmond; sister, Dorothy C. Parish and her husband, Marion Parish of Loveland, Ohio; sister, Betty C. Haynie of Vineland, N.J.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Rev. Jonathan Davis and the Rev. Dr. Robert McKinley will officiate at a memorial service at 11 a.m. August 12 at Beale Memorial Baptist Church in Tappahannock. Interment will be private.

Marks-Bristow Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
