WHITE STONE—On Monday, August 2, Barry Dawson passed quietly in his chair at home in White Stone. He was 67 years old.
Born and raised in White Stone, there was no other place he desired to call home. From an early age he worked at Crockett’s Seafood. He went into the carpentry business with his father, and then on his own for the rest of his years. He was a dedicated lifetime member of the White Stone Volunteer Fire Department.
Barry was a devoted and beloved husband, son, father, ‘pops’, brother, cousin, ‘Uncle B’ and friend to many. He loved planting his garden and more so sharing his vegetables with neighbors. There wasn’t a social gathering he’d turn down an invitation to; he loved to have a good time. Friends knew the shed was always open and you were welcome anytime. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life; he was always telling someone how proud he was of them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Barron Dawson Sr.; his sister, Robin Whaley; and brother, Paul Wilborn.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Patty Dawson; his children, Ryan (Shannon) and Erin (John); his grandchildren, McKynzi Ryan and Brieghton Rylie; his mother, Janet Crockett Dawson; uncles, Jimmie Lee Crockett (Edwina) and Ronnie Crockett (Cathy); brother-in-law, Ray Whaley; sisters-in-law, Mary Margaret Hearold, Kathy Conrad (William) and Doris Wilborn; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and shed crew.
A memorial service was held Saturday, August 7, at Irvington United Methodist Church followed by a reception at the White Stone Firehouse. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to White Stone Volunteer Fire Department or Irvington United Methodist Church.
Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
