KILMARNOCK—Burton M. Moody, 76, Kilmarnock, passed away on October 23, 2021 at Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital.
The son of the late Reuben Moody Jr. and Sophie Moody, he was born November 10, 1944.
Educated in the public schools of Lancaster County, Burton attended Morgan E Norris Elementary and was the 1963 valedictorian of Brookvale High.
A lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, there he was an usher, trustee, a member of the men’s chorus and president of the men’s ministry.
Burton was also a lifelong member of the Palestine Masonic Lodge #100 Kilmarnock where he served as secretary and worshipful master.
He leaves cherished memories with his wife, Etta Moody; his sons, Lamont (Gale) of Maryland, Darrell (Shaunna) of Maryland, Corey (Kenya) of Lancaster, Gerald (Sabrina) of Gloucester, and Franklin (Teakea) and Laticia (Willie), both of Mollusk; 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; one uncle, Joseph Nickens (Glenda) of Maryland; a brother, Roscoe (Rose Mary) of Kilmarnock; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws; and special friends, Marvin Lee, Leonard Scott, Louis Lee, Charles Cox and Jimmy Cox.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 30, at Willie Chapel Baptist Church in Merry Point.
