Community celebrates success of 2025 Historic Church Tour

Two generations of the Wayland Dunaway Carter family attended the tour to celebrate their multigenerational connection to Morattico Baptist Church. On Saturday, September 13, the community gathered to celebrate the 2025 Historic Church Tour, a daylong event that highlighted the enduring legacy of 12 local Baptist churches.

With roots stretching from January 17, 1778, the tour drew history enthusiasts, families and local residents eager to explore the deep connections and stories that have shaped the region for nearly 250 years, reported Morattico Baptist Church History Committee chairman Kathy Pittman.

The backbone of the tour is the remarkable lineage of Morattico Baptist, known as the “mother church.” Established in the late 18th century, Morattico has served as the origin point for 11 of the participating congregations. This shared heritage was front and center throughout the day as….
