Four incoming LHS freshmen participate in GEAR UP Summer Leadership Camp

Early on June 12, four rising Lancaster High School freshmen embarked on an adventure of a lifetime.

Danielle Wright, Daniyah Reese, Christopher Willis and Gage Smith, with their chaperone Margaret Socey, settled into a van for a three-hour ride to George Mason University (GMU) to attend a three-day Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Summer Leadership Camp.

GEAR UP is a federally-funded college access grant program, authorized by Title IV of the 1998 Amendments to the Higher Education Act of 1965. The purpose of the program is to increase the number of low-income and first generation students to be prepared and succeed in college, reported Socey. To meet this goal….
