Jamestown Settlement’s Godspeed, a re-creation of one of the three vessels that brought America’s first permanent English colonists to Virginia in 1607, will participate in two maritime events, the Urbanna Oyster Festival October 31-November 2 and Yorktown Tea Festival, November 7-9.
At Jamestown Settlement, a museum of 17th-century Virginia, a dedicated crew of maritime staff and volunteers work throughout the year to maintain the Godspeed for visitors to learn about the 1607 voyage to Virginia. As a floating classroom, the Godspeed brings its maritime history to remote Virginia schools in the Chesapeake Bay region that are unable to travel to Jamestown Settlement.
The Godspeed, along with the Discovery and Susan Constant, have been designated the “official fleet of the Commonwealth” by the General Assembly.
