KILMARNOCK—Ida S. Gallimore, 95, a longtime resident of Lively, passed away November 19, 2017, in the Alzheimer’s care unit of Commonwealth Senior Living in Kilmarnock.
She was a member of Kilmarnock Baptist Church. In retirement, she participated in charitable activities in Kilmarnock for many years. She was a long-time volunteer for the Historyland Community Workshop, contributing her creative crafts and rich fudge to the group’s fundraising events. She volunteered as manager of Rappahannock General Hospital’s gift shop for seven years.
Ida graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in journalism. She had a successful 30-year career in advertising as a media buyer, retiring from Circuit City Stores Inc. Her husband, Bob, retired from the Associated Press as Bureau Chief for the state of Virginia. Together they built their home on the Corrotoman and enjoyed “rivah” living.
She loved sharing her beloved river and the beauty and history of Virginia with her family. She delighted in taking her grandchildren to Virginia’s amusement parks, touring historic sites with them and playing in the waves with them at the beach.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Rachel Schreiner; brothers, Gilbert and Norman Schreiner; sister, Mildred Schreiner; and husband, Robert S. (Bob) Gallimore.
She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Schreiner; sister, Ruth Wheaton; children, Robert S. (Steve) Gallimore Jr. of Kilmarnock, Gary S. Gallimore and wife, Karen, of Kansas City; grandchildren, Robert G. Gallimore, George Andrew (Andy) Gallimore and Molly Claxton; and great-grandchild, Adelaide Claxton.
Interment of the ashes has been postponed to a date to be determined. Memorial contributions may be made to Kilmarnock Baptist Church. Condolences can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ida was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is greatly missed.
