IRVINGTON—A proposed 3% meals tax will be moving through the pipeline and is now being prepared for a first reading following an April 13 Irvington Town Council meeting.
During his budget and finance committee report, chairman Gabe del Rio led a discussion regarding the implementation and purpose of a meals tax in Irvington, a topic that has been discussed for the last several months.
del Rio said it would be beneficial to get ahead of the curve in terms of saving for capital projects than to wait for the exact determination of projects to begin creating funds to do so.
Council member Phil Robinson said before taking any kind of vote regarding the meals tax, three projects should be targeted for support from a meals tax.
