CALLAO—John Wellington Nash, 89, of Callao, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
Wellington was born on July 17, 1932, to the late Howard and Mary Beatley Nash of Lottsburg and was the beloved husband of Shirley Ann Hall Nash.
Wellington graduated from Callao High School in 1950, was a retired brick mason, former member of the Callao Ruritan Club and devoted member of Coan Baptist Church.
Wellington is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Shirley; his brother, Robert “Bobby” Nash (Marian Lee); his daughter, Mary Ann Saville (Greig); his grandchildren, Stephanie Baker (Mike) and Samantha Hall (Chris); his great-grandchildren Nash Withers, John Pierson “JP” Withers, Kaylie Baker, Leah Hall, and Jillian Hall; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was especially proud of his daughter, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren and loved them very much. His wife babysat in their home for many years and he considered all of those children as family and they lovingly called him “Uncle Wellington.”
Some of Wellington’s most favorite activities were umpiring softball games at the Callao Ruritan Lot, watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball, gardening and farming with his brother at Nash Brothers Farm and having his entire family together enjoying a good meal.
Wellington loved his church and served in many capacities over the years at Coan Baptist Church. He particularly enjoyed greeting people as they entered the church and handing out bulletins, which he did right up to the Sunday before he passed.
A Celebration of Life was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, at Coan Baptist Church in Heathsville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Wellington’s memory by making a donation in his name to Coan Baptist Church, P.O. Box 156, Heathsville, VA 22473; or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.
