KILMARNOCK—The town council voted unanimously (5-0) on Monday to approve a rezoning request for the Hawthorne Commons which would reduce the size of its commercial sites and increase the density of its residential lots.
The proposed development near the municipal water tower and behind the Tractor Supply Co. store covers about 20 acres, some 16 acres of which are residential space. Plans call for 120 housing units, including 11 single-family homes and 12 apartment buildings.
By a 6-1 vote on July 13, the planning commission recommended the rezoning application for approval.
