Everyone is invited to the Community Celebration of Martin Luther King Day at 10 a.m. Monday, January 16, at Calvary Baptist Church, 490 East Church Street, Kilmarnock.
This celebration is sponsored by the Northumberland Ministerial Association, reported the Rev. Lucia Lloyd of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
The Calvary Baptist Church choir will lead the music, said Rev. Lloyd.
“All singers are invited to sing in the choir for the Martin Luther King Day service, and we are hoping to have a choir again this year that is a mix of people from different races and denominations,” she said.
A rehearsal will be held at 7 p.m. today, January 12, at Calvary Baptist Church.
The Rev. Tyron Williams from Mt. Olive Baptist Church will be this year’s preacher. Cecil Taylor will present excerpts from the “I Have a Dream” speech.
“We encourage everyone to participate in this service in which people of different races come together to celebrate the ministry of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and his work for justice and equality for all people, and to renew our commitment to progress toward the fulfillment of that dream,” said Rev. Lloyd.
