Lady Cougars maul Lady Devils, 45-29, in Region 1A basketball championship

The second half belonged to Surry last Saturday as the Lady Cougars pulled away from Lancaster with a 34-13 run to win the girls Region 1A championship, 45-29, in Montross.

As the regional runner-up, the Lady Devils will play Region 1B champion Stonewall Jackson in a state Group 1A quarterfinal at Strasburg High School at 7 p.m. tomorrow, March 2. A win moves Lancaster on to next week’s state semifinals.

Lancaster led a low-scoring first half, 16-11, in last week’s regional final after holding the Lady Cougars to a field goal each by Jasmyn Pierce and JerRhonda King in the second quarter.
