Lancaster Band Boosters announce benefit concert, Red Devil popcorn

Lancaster Band Boosters president Donna McGrath is excited to invite the community to an evening of fun with some wonderful local musicians.

“Buses to the Bowl Benefit Bash,” featuring Tangent and Justin Burke will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. September 16 at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. Ticket sales will start soon and are only $5 per person, said McGrath.

“I was approached by Tangent member Faith Kemp about doing a concert that would help raise money for the band’s trip to the 2017 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl at the end of December,” said McGrath.

“Faith, a Lancaster High graduate and former Red Devils Band member, really wanted to do something fun for the band that the whole community could get behind. She asked Justin, who has performed with the Red Devils at their spring concert, to be a part of it as well and he was all for it.”

McGrath noted that Tangent is a group of local musicians who love to play music. They play a mix of classic and current country and rock, mixed in with some southern rock and blues.

Burke, also a graduate of Lancaster and former Red Devils Band member, is a vocalist and guitarist with two bands: James Justin & Co. and Pretty Heavy.

The Boosters also were approached by another member of the community, Terri Crowder, owner of Northern Neck Popcorn Bag in Kilmarnock.

“Terri, whose business has an offer on the new Band Cards, wanted to do something extra for the band to help them raise money for their trip,” said band director Robbie Spiers.

“She asked if she could create a couple of flavors specifically for the band and donate 40% of the proceeds from these flavors to the band,” he said. “We are grateful for her offer and think the community will enjoy her Red Devil offerings – Big Red Sriracha, a savory classic cheddar cheese sriracha mix and Red Devil Cinnamon Red Hot, a classic cinnamon red hot candy flavor.”

In addition to the special flavors, which will be available throughout the school year in her shop, Crowder has come up with a special fundraiser allowing each student to sell six flavors, earning them money towards their individual trip accounts, added Spiers.

The two Red Devil flavors will be debuted at the Benefit Bash on September 16 and student sales will start the following Monday.

McGrath and Spiers along with all of the Boosters and students truly appreciate the constant and generous support the community continues to show the band.
