Lancaster’s Dominique Veney paced a pack of 30 varsity runners as the individual medalist in the Northern Neck District boys cross country meet last Thursday to lead the Red Devils to the district championship.
The Devils had all five scorers finish among the top 15 to score a team low 29 points. Washington & Lee (W&L) was second with 53 points; Rappahannock (RHS), third with 61; and Essex (EHS), fourth with 87. Northumberland (NHS), despite having two finish in the top five, did not field an entire team.
Veney won the race with a time of 18:07 and crossed the finish line 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Gunnar Leming of RHS.
The Devils had three place in the top 10 with Darius Reed finishing fifth overall and third in team competitors.
