Lancaster students explore career options

LANCASTER—As director of career and technical education (CTE) and workforce readiness for Lancaster County Public Schools, Mary Catherine Jones has been creating experiences for Lancaster High School students to begin thinking about life after graduation, part of the division’s goal to make sure that all students are successfully enrolled, enlisted, or employed upon graduation.

On Monday, November 10, Jones presented the latest experience to the school board. “Girl Power is designed to empower young women and expand opportunities for them in an industry that traditionally has fewer female employees, particularly in operations and line work,” she said. Sponsored by the Virginia, Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives, Jones said the day-long event near Charlottesville gave students hands-on experiences and the opportunity to talk to women that were in non-traditional roles. “Just encouraging the girls to not be discouraged if….
