Come New Year’s the award winning Lancaster High School Red Devil Marching Band will be heading to Jacksonville, Fla., to participate in the Tax Slayer Gator Bowl halftime show.
This will be the last trip for beloved band director Robbie Spiers, who plans to retire after the 2017-18 school year. The students have already begun fundraising with Krispy Kreme donut sales to cover their cost of the trip. Everything from pizza and cookie dough to the ever popular band cards to more donuts will be available from now until December, noted Spiers. Student costs will include their hotel room, several meals and area attractions.
“The Lancaster Band Boosters will cover the cost for charter buses, estimated at $50,000,” said president Donna McGrath. “We have had several fundraisers already, a $1,000 raffle at the winter concert, Thanksgiving pie sales and the ‘Symphony in Flowers’ concert this past March. Upcoming activities include another $1,000 raffle, a Big Band Dance featuring the Northern Neck Big Band and a letter campaign to the community and local businesses.”
