Malone to introduce SAR to Mitchell Map

The Richard Henry Lee Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 15, at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, 132 Lancaster Drive, Irvington.

The guest speaker will be Paul Malone, Ph.D. He will talk about “The Mitchell Map,” the very first map of the U.S., reported Albert “Spike” Nunn.

John Mitchell was prompted by the second Lord Fairfax to create a map of North America. When the map was completed in 1750 it quickly became the “standard bearer” referred to in settling boundary disputes, one of which was the disputed boundary separating Canada from what was to become the U.S.
