Mobile Tech offers electronics repair

by Audrey Thomasson

KILMARNOCK—Cell phones, tablets, laptop computers. Everyone has them and all are prone to dropping those expensive little devices.

Now, there is a local resource for fixing the hardware on mobile technology.

Jonathan McCrobie recently opened Mobile Tech, an electronics repair shop at 235 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. He’s been repairing mobile devices for several years, first for himself, then for friends and now for anyone who doesn’t want to replace that $1,000 iPhone X.

“I became self taught when the iPhone IV came out,” he said. “I broke it so many times the insurance company cut me off.”

Out of necessity, he started repairing it himself. Soon, his friends were bringing him their mobile equipment for repairs. Cracked screens, bad batteries—any hardware problem. “The Verizon store sends their repairs to me.”

He’ll even make house calls in Kilmarnock.

“I repaired a screen at the Rappahannock Record office that fell off a desk,” he said.

McCrobie buys only Apple, Samsung, Motorola, LG parts—manufacturer parts—nothing cheap, refurbished or from eBay or Amazon. His repairs carry a lifetime warranty against defects on parts. And his prices are affordable, according to customer feedback.

“Most cell phones can be repaired in 30 minutes or less. I keep Apple parts in stock,” he added.

For service, call Mobile Tech at 436-2000.
