More Norris Bridge lane closures coming

WHITE STONE—Drivers can expect lane closures and travel delays on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River in late September and October for a maintenance project to replace two bridge pins and for a scheduled bridge inspection.

Pin replacement

Travelers can expect single-lane closures on Route 3 between Lancaster and Middlesex counties, weather permitting, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, September 24, and Saturday, September 29; and 7 p.m.-7 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, and Wednesday, October 3.

On September 24 and 29, traffic will be controlled by automated flagging devices, operated by a certified flagging crew.

During the overnight work zones on October 2 and October 3, traffic will be stopped at the bridge approaches and northbound and southbound traffic will alternate crossing the bridge led by a pilot vehicle, reported Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) communication manager Kelly Hannon. Travelers can expect full traffic stops up to 30 minutes while pins are removed and replaced…
