The Northumberland board of supervisors on Thursday, December 9, had a full slate of activity during its final meeting of the year, first unanimously adopting a resolution in memory of Ron Herring and his contributions to the county.
“Ron would give us advice, both pro and con, but he had his heart in the county. He will be missed,” said supervisor Thomas Tomlin.
“I thought the world of him and he always had an answer for me…whether I liked it or not. He’s always in our memories,” said board chairman Richard Haynie as he presented the resolution to the Herring family.
Supervisors also recognized building official William “Bill” Knight for his 38 years of service and extending “its deepest appreciation and gratitude” upon his retirement. “We hate to see you go, but we wish you well,” said Haynie.
Following a closed session, in 5-0 votes, Stevie Conaway was appointed interim building official effective January 1, 2022, and Drew Basye was appointed assistant county administrator. The board also selected HDH Associates in Christiansburg for architectural/engineering services….
