Northumberland’s three schools are accredited; achievement gaps noted

CLARAVILLE—Students with disabilities at all three schools in Northumberland County are experiencing an achievement gap in English compared to other students, according to school quality reports recently released by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

These school quality reports are developed by the VDOE using the state’s standards of accreditation, which evaluates schools based on academic achievement, achievement gaps and student engagement.

The standards of accreditation for schools in Virginia, which were revised last year by the state Board of Education, provides equal credit for students who pass standardized tests and students who make significant annual progress…
