Planning commission members visit proposed canoe and kayak launch site

TIPERSWith road traffic buzzing overhead on Jessie duPont Memorial Highway, the Northumberland County Planning Commission met on Saturday, December 5, to discuss how to increase traffic on another route: the Great Wicomico River.

A proposed canoe and kayak launch site, directly underneath Tipers Bridge spanning the Great Wicomico, is along shoreline owned by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). “Given the state’s push for more water access,” getting access to the land should not be much of an issue, said planning commission chairman Al Fisher Jr.
