The Kilmarnock American Legion Adams Post 86 baseball team, in its inaugural season, won the district championship Sunday, July 29.
Post 86 beat Albemarle Post 74, 9-4, in the final game in Albemarle County to earn a spot in this week’s state tournament in Winchester. Post 86 represents League C, Districts 12/13 in the state playoffs.
Post 86’s winning streak in the four-team district tournament started on its home field, according to coach Tom Kleinfelter. After losing the first round game in the double elimination tournament, Post 86 knocked Spotsylvania out of the tournament with a 6-2 defeat at Dream Fields in Kilmarnock last Thursday night. Post 86 got by top-seeded King George, 3-2, on the road last Friday then handed Albemarle its first tourney loss, 8-4, Saturday to advance to the final…
