Historic Christ Church & Museum’s (HCC&M) 2018 Sunday Speaker Series will open at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, with a presentation by Helen Rountree on “Powhatan Indian Women and the Jamestown Colonists.”
Rountree will explore Indian women’s work routines, family and tribal structure and their economic and cultural exchanges with the English, reported education director and curator Robert Teagle.
Rountree notes that Indian women in Virginia originally performed many diverse jobs, independently of men. In chiefly families, they could also become chiefs if they outlived their brothers…
